Welcome

Founded in 1984, the Union Pacific Historical Society is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the history of the Union Pacific Railroad from its beginning in 1862 to the operation as it is today. The society is not supported by, or affiliated with, the railroad other than the preservation of its rich and colorful history.

The Union Pacific Historical Society was founded September 1, 1984 in Denver, CO. The purpose of the society is to collect, organize, distribute and publish information relating to the operation and equipment of the Union Pacific Railroad.

The UPHS publishes a quarterly publication, “The Streamliner”. The magazine’s editorial staff tries to balance articles on motive power, rolling stock, structures, oral history, and operation in each issue. “The Streamliner” is a high quality publication that has had color in every issue since Volume 1 Number 3.

UPHS Mission Statement

The purpose of the Union Pacific Historical Society is to gather, preserve, and disseminate historical photos, documents, and information relating to the employees, management, equipment, facilities, traffic, and operations of the Union Pacific Railroad including its predecessor and subsidiary lines for the benefit of our members and the public.
