The Union Pacific Historical Society is looking for someone to take over the role of webmaster of both the UPHS.org website and the UPHS Company Store.
This position will become available in June 2015 but the Board hopes to find a replacement as soon as possible so as to ensure a smooth transition. The position could be filled by two individuals.
This position will be responsible for supporting and updating the UPHS Company Store utilizing proprietary software through the Storehost Online Commerce Suite. Changes can be limited to adding the latest past edition of THE STREAMLINER Magazine every three months to the site to adding several diverse products to the Company Store at the same time. Typical required support time is less than 10 hours per month, less than 2 hours per week. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Learning and mastering the Storehost Online Commerce Suite so as to utilize it to the best of it’s capabilities
- Overseeing the layout and overall organization of the entire UPHS Company Store website
- Adding and removing UPHS products from the Company Store site in a timely manner
- Writing promotional copy for products as they are added to the site
- Acquiring, sizing product images and placing them on the company store website in a uniform manner
- Monitoring customer orders to ensure quality assurance
- Tracking product inventory
- Working closely with others members of the UPHS Board to meet UPHS Board goals in terms of pricing, marketing and placing UPHS products on the UPHS Company Store
- Monitoring the website on a daily basis to ensure that it is up performing as intended and properly linked to the UPHS.org website.
- Providing timely customer support to users problems and website outages
- Monitoring and reporting website traffic trends to the UPHS Board using Google Analytics
- Will serve on the UPHS Website Committee and may serve as Chairperson of that Committee
This position is also responsible of supporting and updating the UPHS.org website, the official website of the Union Pacific Historical Society. The current website is constructed using WordPress software.
Changes include but are not limited to periodically adding the latest edition of the From the Business Car, THE STREAMLINER SECOND SECTION, updating reference to the most recent edition of THE STREAMLINER and its contents, adding names to the list of Preservation and Sustaining UPHS Memberships and members of the STREAMLINER 100 Club, promoting and providing up-to-date information on upcoming UPHS conventions, providing timely follow-up to recent past UPHS conventions, promoting UPHS products, creating and posting timely posts that relate to the UPHS and its members. Typical required support time is less than 20 hours per month, less than 5 hours per week. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Learning and mastering WordPress so as to utilize the software to the best of its capabilities
- Overseeing and improving the layout and overall organization of the entire UPHS.org website as needed
- Adding and removing pages and posts as necessary from the Company Store site in a timely manner
- Writing copy for website pages and posts as they are added to the site
- Acquiring, sizing photo images and placing them on the UPHS.org website in a creative manner
- Working closely with others members of the UPHS Board to meet UPHS Board goals in terms of creating and placing UPHS related pages and posts on the UPHS.org website
- Monitoring the UPHS.org website on a daily basis to ensure that it is up performing as intended and properly linked to the UPHS Company Store website. Periodically checking other website and pages links to ensure proper operability of the website
- Providing timely customer support to users’ problems and website outages
- Work with outside support person, Danielle Signor, to solve problems or create new capabilities for the UPHS.org website on a limited case-by-case basis.
- Monitoring and reporting website traffic trends to the UPHS Board using Google Analytics
- Will serve on the UPHS Website Committee and may serve as Chairperson of that Committee
Requirements: Candidate(s) should:
- Have general working knowledge of both the internet and website design. Experience with WordPress and past experience with ecommerce sites is a plus but not required
- Be a self-starter, be highly organized and be able to work without much supervision
- Be able to work closely with all members of the UPHS Board of Directors in utilizing both UPHS websites to fulfill the goals of the Society
- A UPHS Member in good standing
